History of Class Rings

The Class Ring is one of the most important and sentimental rings that a person can wear. They provide the owner with a token of remembrance of their past or future accomplishments. These designed rings hold great value for those who graduate from High School or College.
The tradition of Class rings have become very popular among Americans and Canadians throughout the past decades. They are made and given to celebrate one's graduation.
The designs are personalized, while still matching with the schools selected stone color. They are usually based on the activities the student attended while in school.

This tradition started back in 1835 with students at the United States Military Academy at West Point, celebrating a tradition that has been going for over 180 years. Their primary goal was to visually wear something that represented the unity of the group. One of the students had the idea of wearing a ring with a similar design.  As it became tradition for all graduate classes of West Point, it soon after became tradition for all major universities and high schools.

Types of Class Rings

Over the years some high schools and universities gave the option of customizing the rings. Although they have allowed the change of appearance, while keeping to the stone color the school has selected. They would still keep the emblem or logo of the school, but students can now have their names printed on the ring as one of the options to identify the rings owner.

Gold diamond rings are by far the most popular ones. However, Class Rings can now be ordered with different metals, such as Silver and Platinum.  The idea of using different materials and shades, is because of price and also to be able to highlight names and design. Platinum class rings are considered to be the higher quality choice.

Do Male and Females Use The Same Type of Ring?

Each school uses the same color of stone for all students. The student chooses the cut and size of the stone. Males and females typically use a similar, yet different style of class rings.

Which Finger Do I Where My Class Ring On?

The history of the ring also carries some traditions with it. Typically a class ring is worn on the ring finger of the right hand. This counters the common tradition of wearing wedding rings on the left ring finger. Following tradition, the insignia on the ring should face inward towards the wearer, while he or she is enrolled in school. This is to remind the wearer of their goal. After graduation, the ring can be worn with its insignia facing outwards. The rings of famous institutions are much cherished and are often handed over as heirlooms.

Cash Loans Vs. Selling Ring

If you are unsure whether you can part with your ring, you can opt for a pawn loan instead of an outright sale. Simply take your ring to one of our pawn shops in Utah and get an all-cash loan for 30-60 days. After the loan period is over, you can decide whether to keep the money and forget about the ring, or return the money (with interest) and get back your ring.
